Those who call Lafayette home love its laidback small town feel but also appreciate its vibrant and growing downtown which offers excellent restaurants, shops, and services. Lafayette is conveniently located about 23 miles from San Francisco and it has a Bart Station (Bay Area Rapid Transit train).
With a population of almost 25,000, it is the largest city in Lamorinda. There are 4 public elementary schools (Burton Valley, Happy Valley, Lafayette Elementary, and Springhill), 1 middle school (Stanley) and most of the students attend Acalanes High School. Residents enjoy plenty of recreational outlets in Lafayette. Walking the three mile loop around the reservoir is a popular (and scenic) activity. Briones Regional Park encircles much of Lafayette and provides pristine ridgelines as well as endless hiking opportunities. Residents also enjoy the Lafayette-Moraga trail which provides miles of paved trail for jogging and biking. There are three children’s parks as well.
